Do we really know what a friend is? As young children, friends are children we play with on the playground or sit beside each other. Year by year, the meaning of friends changes. By the time girls reach the third or fourth grade, they start realizing what they think a friend is. To them, a friend is someone who can come over to their house after school or for a sleepover. Boys, start to have friends, but at the same time, they might start fighting them over something so simple. The next day they are back to being buddies.
Once they reach middle school, the children are no longer children. they want to be known as a tween. One of my grandsons told me on his birthday he would be a tween. A tween I think, is a child who is in between being a child and a teenager. Middle school is when they start to learn what a friend is. The girls will begin to find girls that might have the same thing in common with them. It might be sports, crafting, or just hanging out.
Now high school, this is when true friendship begins. They might find friends or one special friend to whom they can tell things and the friend will never tell anyone. Sharing, and laughing about things together. This is when true friends a formed and will continue through their adult life.
Graduation has come and gone. Marriage and children come along. Sometimes divorce happens. Distance can separate them, but friends are always in contact with each other. Sharing stories of their children and grandchildren. Through the years, with sickness and the loss of spouses or parents, friendships have become very much stronger than ever before.
So what I am trying to say is that always stay in contact with your friends. We do not know when death comes to take a friend away. Knowing that the friend will always be in your heart forever.
